Clientele Medical Aid
Many people call Clientele medical aid, but it is not. Clientele Life is an insurance company which offers a policy that provides hospital cover rather than medical expenses cover.
The policy gives a cash benefit that is of one’s own choosing in case one lands in hospital. The member can use the cash for diverse purposes depending on one’s own preferences.
These could be to cover medical bills or for buying medicine. They could compensate you for lost income (because you are not working) or pay your children’s school fees. Or they could cover any expenses related to the hospitalization.
Unexpected expenses
During hospitalization, it is often that unexpected costs arise and get us off guard. It could be that it is a family member who is unwell or we as individuals. Whatever the case, an unexpected rise in the expected costs will put anyone in trouble. Medical aids will most of the time be our plan A and will work for us many times, but these aids have limits.
At times the bills and expenses will exceed the set limits and we have to look for extra sources of money. This is where Clientele comes in to save the day.
Clientele medical aid will provide the cash to cover the extra costs. Clientele Medical Aid is, however, by no means the only scheme available to South Africans. Many firms help people who are seeking to control their medical expenditure and get value for their money.
Schemes such as Discovery Medical Aid, Bonitas Medical Aid, Gems Medical Aid and Sizwe Medical Aid provide South Africans with a range of options to fit their budgets and medical needs.
Clientele medical aid packages on offer
Clientele life has three packages from which one can choose one that fits their needs as individuals or as a family. The clientele Accident plan, the Hospital Cash Back Plan and the Premium Hospital Cash Back Plan.
Accident plan
The Clientele Accident plan covers any extra expenses incurred by accident patients in the hospital. A condition for this cover is that the accident victim should have stayed at the hospital for more than one day.
To qualify for this cover one pays a premium from R 104 each month. Clientele pays benefits of this cover from the first day as stated in the agreed terms and this could be in the range of R 250 to R 2000 per day for the period one is in the hospital. Additional benefits are that the victim has cover in case of ICU admission, and in case of death one will have access to Accidental Death Benefits.
Hospital cash back plan
The second package is the Hospital Cash Back plan. This is the general package for every kind of hospital admission and will cover almost every need. Its only condition is that one has to have been admitted for more than two days. The benefits will then be awarded from the third day.
In this plan, a premium from R 100 is paid each month. One can then be paid in the range between R 350 and R 3000 per day for the period in the hospital.
Other benefits include ICU cover, Maternity cover, Accidental Death benefit and Accidental disability benefit. This plan also covers pre-existing medical conditions after a period that is agreed upon.
Another major benefit that in effect gives the plan its name is that one is refunded money after they make 60 premium payments. This is after about 5 years of committed membership.
Premium hospital cash back plan
The last package in Clientele medical aid is the Premium Hospital Cash Back plan. This has similar conditions to the Hospital Cash Back plan but it attracts more premiums and in turn offers higher benefits. One pays premiums from R200 per month and pay is between R 1000 and R5000 per day. An additional benefit from those of the Hospital cash back plan is the Dread Disease benefit.
